Four decades of serious-crime investigation.
Captain Ben Booysen served forty years in the South African Police Service before retiring to lead investigative mandates in the private sector. Across his career he built a reputation for patience, tradecraft and an unwavering focus on the evidence — the qualities that ultimately closed one of South Africa's most complex modern cases.
He was the lead detective on the Krugersdorp Killers — the so-called "Appointment Murders" — a three-year investigation that culminated in the arrest and conviction of Cecilia Steyn and her syndicate. The case became the subject of the acclaimed true-crime series Devilsdorp, later carried internationally on Netflix.
In 2022 he published On the Devil's Trail: How I Hunted Down the Krugersdorp Killers (NB Publishers) with Sunday Times journalist Nicki Gules — a first-hand account of the investigation and of a career built inside the SAPS. The Afrikaans edition, Op die Spoor van die Duiwel, followed shortly after.

Before the Krugersdorp Killers investigation made his name public, Ben Booysen spent years inside the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation — the Hawks — the SAPS unit mandated to pursue serious organised crime, serious commercial crime and serious corruption. His work in the Anti-Corruption Unit brought a string of formal commendations from SAPS and DPCI command.
